Dirk van Berkel The Dutch firm Interieur-architectuur Dirk van Berkel focuses on different kinds of projects, varying from the decoration of houses, offices and shops to providing a total concept. The firm also devotes itself to product design. Interior architecture is the kind of profession that keeps you busy all day long. It strongly influences ones life, especially because design is everywhere around us. It strikes me that if I go to the movies, or if Im just walking down the street, I see different images than the person next to me. I look at the world around me through the eyes of a designer, always in search of inspiration. One of the characteristics of my designs is its homogeneous nature. The different elements in a certain space must have a similar form language. This has been one of the reasons to design products myself instead of buying them. Also, I like to work with old materials. They have more character and tell a story. Furthermore I find it important that my designs are innovative and long-lasting: thats my mission.
