Massimo Mariani was born in 1951 in Pistoia, Italy. In 1977 he graduated from the Facoltà di Architettura di Firenze, where he collaborated with scholar Remo Buti (from 1980 to 1992). Mariani founded a firm for the design and the production of experimental objects and furniture, Studio Stilema with Alberto Casciani in 1980. Since 1990, Mariani’s professional activity, based on a studio in Montecatini Terme, has focused on interior design and architecture. He has realized a series of houses, among them Private House in Monsummano Terme (1989-90) and Benigni House in Buggiano (1995-98) recently an apartment in the center of Florence and the Stefano House in Empoli. Mariani has also penned the design of many banks in Tuscany, such as those in Pontedera (1991-95), Fornacette (1993-95), Poggibonsi (1994-96), Donoratico (1997-2002) and offices for Cabel in Empoli (1992-97) and Milan (1998).
Many projects are currently under construction, including an addition to an elementary school and a cemetery in Ponte Buggianese, or the new headquarter of the Bank of Fornacette in Pisa and few more office buildings in Tuscany. Recently Verbavolant editor has published a monograph about his work, called “Massimo Mariani Progetti 1980-2005”.
