Shunmyo Masuno was born in Tsurumi-ku Yokohama city in 1953. He graduated from the Department of Agriculture of Tamagarwa University in 1975. In 1979 he received Zen training at Sohji-ji head temple. Shunmyo Masuno founded Japan Landscape Consultants Ltd in 1982. Then he became a professor of Tama Art University in 1998. In 2001 Shunmyo was appointed Head priest of Kenkohji Temple. He received an honorary degree from the University of British Columbia in 2005. In 2012, Shunmyo got the Master of Beijing DeTao Masters Academy. And he is also the Zen priest, Professor of Tama Art University. Shunmyo ever won many awards, such as National Grand Prize from the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architecture, Annual Award from the Ministry of Education, Minister’s Award from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, GALA SPA Award (special prize) 2005, Meritorious Service Medal from Canadian Government (2005), Cross of the Order of Merit from the Federal Republic of Germany (2006) and so on.
