Jostein Bjørbekk and Tone Lindheim founded Bjørbekk & Lindheim Landscape Architects in 1986. At present, the studio consists of 18 landscape architects and one landscape engineer. The firm is today one of Norway’s largest and one of the leading Nordic firms within landscape-architecture.
The essential design concept for all of Bjørbekk & Lindheim’s projects is to pay attention to each individual locality. They do extensive research, and historical, social and cultural settings are incorporated into their projects. They look at how topography and climate, as well as natural vegetation and existing building traditions, have impacted on a place. Are there any stories, myths or legends that can be told, that can be dramatized? What are future needs that they should accommodate? How can the aesthetic and functional challenges be solved within the prevailing economic, cultural and natural limits? Bjørbekk & Lindheim Landscape Architects try to find simple answers to complex problems, designing the site so that it looks right, as if it has always been there.
They try to create beauty in everyday life, to make attractive meeting places and functional landscapes which will age with dignity and mature gracefully. The firm also focuses on ecological solutions. Bjørbekk & Lindheim has received several 1st prizes, awards and nominations.
