João Barros was born in Lisbon on August 6, 1986. He concluded his degree in architecture at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Lisbon, having attended the third year in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto.
The professional experience of architects such as SANAA Architects, Tadao Ando, Herzog deMeuron, Siza Vieira and Souto Moura transmitted at the conferences he attended were very important in his growth as an architect. The academic project of the recovery of houses in the rural estate of Freixo do Meio opened his horizons for eco building, permaculture and sustainability which have become constraints in his way of thinking architecture.
He worked at Atelier 33 with architect Jorge Cid and later in collaboration with GCCM architects he participated on projects such as Mira de Aire Cultural Centre, Junqueira’s Housing Complex and Museum of Faro.
In 2011 he completed his masters thesis in architecture with the theme "The private intervention as a driver of public space," mentioning the relationship between public and private space and how they energize each other. Recently he created Comunidade 560, an open, multidisciplinary and artistic community that wants to encourage creativity and intellectual production, and that has the purpose to bring together creative people from various areas to address artistic projects in different areas.
