Malvern is considered to be a small but remarkable place, with a lot of landmarks to be visited. This causes the project target audience to be broad and consisted of different categories and age groups. International, elderly and people with disabilities, as well as children are particularly considered within the design’s features.
The concept was greatly inspired by “Legible London”, Bristol and Cardiff’s signage systems due to their simplistic and intuitive design.
The main materials used for the signage are l and wood, as they are considered easy for maintenance and also convey a more natural look that suits the town’s nature. The colours and shapes are inspired by Malvern and the Hills and their charming fresh atmosphere. Avoiding the sound effects for the Interpretation board, as well as the additional night illumination for the signage system, solves ecological problems such as light and noise pollution. However, in order to improve the late tourists’ experience, a phosphoric paint may be used.
