The Itaipu Tourist Complex has been created in order to enhance Itaipu's participation in Foz do Iguaçu's tourism, the second most visited city in Brazil. One of the main guidelines of the project was to make visitors awake of the scope of activities of the company: besides power generation, historical and cultural actions and, especially, activities related to environmental preservation and sustainability.
Considering these premises, the signaling system was d on the reuse of materials used in the construction of the dam. These items, there to fore scrap l, were used as structural elements in several signage pieces. This solution added exclusive aesthetic values to the project, becoming one of its main features.
The integration of visual and cognitive solutions to the whole signaling system, including external and internal areas and the indicative, directional and didactic functions, has assured to users a correct spatial orientation and an adequate grasp of historical, technical and environmental information. This way, with a striking, clear and functional communication, the signaling system was able to add great institutional value to Itaipu.
