The duplex apartment is part of an apartment building, located in a quiet neighbourhood on the outer ring of the very centre of Ljubljana.
The apartment was inspired by the famous Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. After considerable thought and careful planning, after making the final corrections to the floor plan design and pulling down the walls, an eclectic but balanced home has finally been brought to life. When the visitors accustom themselves to the volume defined by the great wall surfaces, perfected by the distinct décor and the concentration of furniture design classics, it becomes clear that the apartment was designed pragmatically and developed with meticulous precision.
The upper level consists of the closet, the bedroom with rich black patterns on the wall of the same colour that add an aristocratic air to it, and the bathroom. The distinctiveness of the latter is most definitely in its use of materials. Instead of the customary ceramic tiles, the walls are covered in glass and foil is glued on the backside of individual strips across the entire surface. This gives the walls a feel of fluidity and the bathroom equipment, seemingly floating above the floor, produces an additional effect of transparency. Part of the wall has been replaced by a mirror from floor to ceiling, covered in unique stickers that can also be easily removed. Much like it is possible to move the existing furniture, repaint the walls, change the decoration and create an entirely different apartment. It is very much possible that it will be completely different someday. Who knows what fairytale will be its source of inspiration then?
