X-hibition is an ephemeral interior design for the BIN@Porto international event.
The challenge was to design space partitions for a 250sqm room that would host two different programs on consecutive days: on the first, an exhibition on twenty technological start-ups; on the second, a conference for 100 people. Thus, the proposed intervention should be highly flexible and able to transform the spatial qualities of the room in just a few hours.
X-hibition is a self-structured system d on the multiplication and rotation of one only singular piece, a cardboard cross. Cardboard was chosen not only because it is re-usable and bio-degradable, but also because it allowed to create a weightless structure and also to easily explore of its graphic qualities – to be blue on one side and striped on the other.
The two final layouts of the interior designs reflect the flexibly of the whole system and both take advantage of the guests’ different perspectives, becoming, in effect, a form of interactive art .
The installation was dismantled and its ready to be used differently in future events.
