Rio Shopping in Valladolid, Spain is the 29th shopping centre of the Inter Ikea Centre Group (IICG), which is in line with IICG’s unique recipe for success - a powerful tenant mix that combines the best of international retailers with the best of local brands, creating a strong offer, carefully selected to suit the needs and desires of the local market, and of course, an integrated IKEA store as key component of IICG’s shopping centre strategy. The shopping mall has a total GLA of over 100,000 sqm with over 120 shops and 4,600 car parking spaces, while the integrated IKEA store has a GLA of 34,700 sqm. Other high profile tenants include Inditex, H&M, Primark, Leroy Merlin, Worten, SportZone, Superdry. The development is completed by a Retail Park.
Rio Shopping combines the IICG recognizable style, a simple and functional design, clean lines and a smooth ergonomic language - the ‘Scandinavian touch’ - with a unique architectural language, which takes inspiration from the local surroundings. ‘Design International planned a series of Plazas with double height volumes, inter ed by flowing malls evoking the flow of rivers, which is quite a fitting phor, as Rio is Spanish for River. The food court, like an island in the river, is on the second level and directly connected to the IKEA entrance through bridges, the fine dining restaurants and the cinemas. The project is full of references to the region of Castilla y Leon, an astounding area famous for its history, culinary and popular traditions and most of all the infinite landscape with yellow fields in the summer, punctuated by bales of straw, hills marked by Pine and Acorn trees and wide open skies. Combined with the ‘Scandinavian touch’, this gives Rio Shopping a unique flair, which have helped to make it the most popular shopping destination in Valladolid and the wider region.
