This project merges two adjacent condominium units on the twelfth floor of a West SOHO mid-rise building. The existing walls of the previous units were demolished, which allowed the 1600 square-foot floor plan to be completely new and unique. The goal was to create a sublime and minimalist New York City home with great light, excellent views, and tranquil space. 

 

The plan aligns all rooms along the east-facing, floor-to-ceiling windows for natural light and skyline views. A loft-like space for living, cooking, and eating comprises the main area. A small gallery area backs up to the main space to exhibit photography. Flanking each end of the main space are two suites whose opposite location gives them maximum privacy. 

 

The furnishings are a mix of new and vintage. The sofa and lounge chair are new by David Weeks through Ralph Pucci, while the coffee table is 1970’s French in folded aluminum and glass. The credenza, also vintage 1970s, was made in Italy. The dining table is Saarinen with TG10 sling side chairs by William Katavolos. The kitchen is by Bulthaup, and the floors are wide-plank, Vulcano Oak by Mafi. The jet photograph in the kitchen is by Jeffrey Millstein, while the color photograph near the door, called “Poolside Gossip”, is by Slim Aarons.
