ODOS Architects have designed 3 connecting homes in Dublin, Ireland, that are covered in black zinc siding.
Situated adjacent to the Royal canal, these 3 mews houses give little away to the street of their interlocking light filled floor plates. The black zinc curved hat and the stone gables contain 3 dwellings which have direct access to external space and natural daylight from every room at every level.
Internally the concrete stairs acts not only as a physical connector but also brings light, refection and shadow down through the building. Each dwelling has been finished to a high specification with underfloor heating throughout and aluminium triple glazed thermally broken glazing as standard.
Artificial lighting throughout is provided by the use of flush LED wall units and 5 amp sockets ed to the mains. Feature pendant fittings are located in the kitchen and downlighters provide additional lighting in the bedroom spaces. All bedrooms and living spaces are fully fitted with a limed oak herringbone timber floor. The kitchen and stairs feature a concrete power floated finish.
At entry level a power floated concrete route leads you to two ensuite bedrooms each with floor to ceiling glazing and direct access to a private planted external courtyard. Each bedroom has bespoke fitted storage units.
Each fully tiled en-suite bathroom has a high pressure rainhead shower and glass screen and also benefits from a fitted mirrored storage unit with integrated LED lighting. There is also a full height mirrored wall in the shower area with integrated heatpads. The ground floor accommodation also includes a fully fitted utility room and direct access to the garage space.
The concrete staircase leading you to the first floor has a timber fin wall which filters light across the stairs and s the ground level to the top storey. As you ascend the connection to the outside is constantly visible from ground to second floor.
The kitchen space at first floor sits behind a l fin screen which provides both privacy and shading from the exterior and access to a terrace overlooking the street below and connecting visually back into the vertical stairwell. The kitchen space connects to the living space above spatially with a double height void bringing light and air to the middle volume. The kitchen has a power floated concrete floor throughout with marble topped kitchen units and island.
The third bedroom at this level has an ensuite and juliet balcony which opens to the private terrace below. The second floor living space is accessed by the concrete stair and is dual aspect with a large roof light bringing light down to the kitchen space below. The living space extends directly onto a generous private terrace space with a timber finned enclosure.
